Vanessa Minnillo is originally from the Philippines. Her mom, Helen, is originally from the Philippines, while her dad, Vincent, is a citizen of the United States. Vincent Jr., who was adopted into the Vanessa family, is Vanessa's older brother by two years. 

Due to the fact that Minnillo's father was in the Air Force, her family moved about quite a bit. Some of the places they called home were California, Florida, Nevada, Washington, Germany, and Japan. Her parents had a divorce in 1986 and then both went on to find other spouses.

She was the first woman from South Carolina to win the title of Miss Teen USA, and she was also given the title of Miss Congeniality. Vanessa began her career in the beauty industry by competing in beauty pageants, and she eventually won the title of Miss South Carolina Teen USA before being crowned Won The miss USA in 1998. 

She went on to host or co-host a number of beauty pageants in the years that followed, including "Miss World 2007," "Miss USA 2018," and "Miss World 2019."
